Heroic Age: feuding city-states, heroes & monsters, etc. The land is
called Hellate.
Golden Age (hundreds and hundreds of years ago): colonial empire, based on
economic and cultural strength as much as military; Ilatia united under the
successors of Siccandro; everything you've ever heard about any Golden Age,
even unto the virgin with a sack of gold walking safely from one end of the
kingdom to the other.
Conquest by Venostean Empire: They make the city of
Aliarto their puppet
dictators in the region. The colonies resist inclusion, declare
independence, and confederate. Many people emigrate to the colonies from
the subjugated homeland.
Greater Ilatia (several hundreds of years ago): as the empire's direct
influence in Ilatia wanes, cities there gradually begin to join the
colonies' confederation. Eventually, the ecumenical atmosphere and the
complete withdrawal of the empire totally erode
Aliarto's dominance.
Dark Age (last couple hundred years): Valusian allies brought in by
Liarno
to fight
Mezano,
and end up conquering the whole island and setting up a
feudal kingdom. The kingdom splits into three within one generation and
lapses into feudal anarchy within three. With trade disrupted, the
colonies decline. The sorcerous, maritime empire of Malibann invades to
"restore order," then proceeds to carve Ilatia and the former colonies into
tributary provinces.
615 Anno Scamandro Conditae - The Drowning: Malibann sunk, Ilatian coastal
cities destroyed, Malbanni massacred in witch hunts. Renaissance of
republican city-states.
633 - Conquest of Istia: from the mainland, installation of mainland line of
kings of Istia
mid-630s to mid-640s - Wars of the Leagues: the north coast cities
650s - the Istian Wars: expansion of
Istia,
Mezano, Dodekapolis
660s - Prince Laedos' Wars: expansion of
Aliarto; revolution in
Ilione
early 670s - War of the Spice Islands: naval war, fought mostly overseas;
corsairs dominate the seas
672-674 - Prince Laedos' Succession: civil war in
Aliarto
676:
Mreva begins organized naval campaign against corsairs
678: Game present
From Past to Present
Invasion and conquest by Sigander of Himinam (Teuthi from the mainland),
foundation of the new royal capital of Siganderul. Although an invader at
the time, later ages remember him as a national/folk hero. Cultural and
linguistic assimilation begins. Colonial expansion under royal policy:
trading colonies established on the mainland to "civilize" (develop) the
region.
